Special K Cookies

I'm sure these came from the back of the Kelloggs box at some point in time, but here is how I got the recipe....

In our old house I had the most wonderful neighbor across the street. Teresa and I had kids the same age and was a SAHM also. We would sit on her front steps day after day and watch the kids play. I miss those days. While we sat we would swap recipes. Her mother is this adorable, tough as nails yet kind hearted German woman. She came here as a child not speaking any English. She is called Oma by all her grandchildren and by my children as well.

Oma got this recipe from her next door neighbor when Teresa was young. This neighbor happened attend the Methodist Church. So, Oma called them Methodist Cookies. They are called that in my house too. What ever you want to call them, they are delicious! Enjoy!

Special K Cookies AKA: Methodist Cookies

1 cup sugar
1 cup Karo light syrup
1 cup peanut butter
5 cups Special K cereal
1 package chocolate chips
1 package butterscotch chips

1) In a large pot combine sugar and Karo syrup. Bring to a boil until sugar is dissolved, 1 minute tops.
2) Add peanut butter and stir until melted
3) Add Special K and mix to coat.
4) Push into greased 9x13 pan
5) Melt in double boiler chocolate and butterscotch chips. This can be done in the microwave if you prefer.
6) Spread over Special K mixture.
7) Let set and cut into bars.

Enjoy!! ~Shelby

These are the Days...

Trader Joe's pizza has become a staple around here. The dough is so good and saves me so much time, I haven't made my own in months! The pepperoni is delish too. Friday or Saturday night...it's what's for dinner!

This adorable little girl got a goal on Saturday! "I did it Mom!!" Man, I love her!

I skipped laundry for a few days and now I'm really sorry.....

He loves me... I found a kiss when I went out to my car. Awwww!

On the other hand a bird with extremely bad manners left me this!!! Ewwwww!

Anyone else tired of making lunches!? I make them as soon as I unpack them after school. I don't like doing them in the morning, I'd rather sleep!

Conner and Doyle had some quality time together...

I LOVE driving the girls to soccer, they make me smile.

I went down to Scott's work for lunch. His cousin/employee/best dog sitter. Made this slot machine cake for him! Too cute!

I saw my first goldfinch of the season! It is Washington States Bird, just in case you wanted to know. ;)

I think blogging makes you see little moments differently.  Hope you enjoyed my little moments. ~Shelby

Happy birthday Mr. Perfectly Imperfect!!

Tomorrow is my sweet husband's birthday!

of course he gets his picture in the birthday frame!

I knew the moment I met you I had to make you my own. We have been through the ups, the downs and the beautiful lulls in between. I wouldn't trade a moment with you for anything. You make me laugh, make me feel safe, make me feel like I can do anything  and above everything else you make me thankful. I know we can make it through anything with you by my side. The best is yet to come!

Happy birthday Baby!! <3 I love you!

Sunny Sunday and Front Porch preview

Sunday we had AMAZING weather! This cute girl asked to wash my car.

She apologized on the way to school this morning because it actually looks worse than it did before she started!! She told me to go get a real car wash today and she'd pay for it! Informed me that she just isn't that good at it yet, because she is a beginner!! Sweet girl.  Don't worry I won't let her pay for a car wash.  I don't care one bit, she had fun.

I got started on the front porch over the weekend. I sprayed the urns gray last year , they started out beige. They need a few touch ups after the winter.  As soon as we have some consistent sunshine I will stick some ferns in them.

I made this J last year also. I copied Sarah at Thrifty Chick Decor. I just stuck a cute, little, vintage owl pin into the moss.

I sprayed the bird cage white and think this little corner turned out cute. The chair is super old from my Grandma's house. I love the green and orange so I'm going to run with that color scheme here this year.

I'm on the hunt for some green and orange fabric to recover the pillow and I'm thinking I might spray the bunny ORANGE!

A few ferns here and there on the porch when the time comes and I'm set!

Excellent, Easy Brownies

Today is suppose to be a These are the days post where I show pictures of the little moments that happened this week.... but my pictures were so few, had no people in them and were not very exciting. I did make these amazing brownies last night, so I thought we'd have brownies instead!!

These are a gooey, sweet, super yummy, super easy brownie. They are not diet friendly but they are worth the splurge! Plus they are as easy as from a box. Seriously.

Excellent, Easy Brownies
2 sticks margarine or butter
2 cups sugar
4 eggs
1 cup flour
1 tsp vanilla
4 tbsp cocoa

Mix everything together and pour into a pan of your choice depending on how thick or thin you like your brownies.
Bake at 350* for 30-40  minutes.
allow to cool and cut.
devour with a tall glass of cold milk
or serve warm with ice cream!!
I have also made this into a cake as shown here...

Conner's Blues Clues themed 1st birthday. Awwww. How time FLIES!!

Yes.... I solemnly swear to never cut my hair short again. Enjoy! ~Shelby

baskets!

I showed you my pantry in progress here. I should have named this blog  Life  In Progress, cuz I use that phrase alot!

I still haven't painted, the red gingham is kinda getting to me, but lets get real here, I want/need to paint our master, Conner's bathroom, re-paint the laundry room, ... the list goes on. I need a schedule! Plus Spring is here so I have out side projects!! Focus Shelby!

 Anyhow...

I saw these for 50% off at JoAnne's. Perfect size.  Not white and  no chalkboard label like I thought I wanted, but I like the natural color and the weave would allow me to add my own label........ in my spare time. ;)

AND I saw this basket for 50% off at Hobby Lobby, one handle was broken so I got it for 75% off. I just broke off the other handle and it is perfect for my cereal. I was needing something bigger.

I am still crazy about this storage solution! Works great!

Here it is as of today,

I showed my chalkboard magnetic pantry door project here.

I will be sure and show you when I paint in there (that red is really bugging me)

I better go start.... or finish, a project!! ~Shelby

WIWW

OK.. here goes.

For about a year now I have been putting a little extra effort into my clothes, finishing off my outfits with accessories and really making myself get out of my work out clothes and into real clothes. Not just if I have to go somewhere real,  I do it everyday. Over at The Pleated Poppy she makes sure she does just that by taking photos of herself in her real clothes and posting them to What I Wore Wednesday. Every Wednesday I will attempt to link up with Lindsey and all her WIWW linkers.

I am still trying to figure out the best way to take photos of myself... I dress after the gym now and I'm here all alone.... bear with me.

So here is my very first WIWW post. I only have one picture this time. I did dress just didn't get the pics.

Jacket~Singrid Olsen, Nordstroms, super old
Jeans~ LA Idol
Flats~ TJ Maxx
Tee~ Ann Taylor, super old
Necklace~ local shop
Ring~ Joanne's

Since my picture is so horrible here are a few close ups...

I will work on taking better photos of myself!! Any tips I'd love to hear them!

Thanks for stopping by! ~Shelby

Dining room in progress

Like every other room in my house the dining room is a work in progress.
Besides a few touches it is almost done..

Obviously the chandelier MUST go!! I have been looking, I just am not sure about what I want. I have contemplated spraying the existing one, but honestly the thought terrifies me. so I wait until the perfect solution comes along! ;) I plan on re covering the chairs as well . I'm thinking a black and white? Thinking I want to go bold... why not right?

(My husbands birthday is this month... so the birthday banner is hung.)
The print of Cherry blossoms on the far wall was done by my son, it still needs a black frame. I adore it.

The old violin was my Father in law's, it's in some rough shape!
Treasures and a clock that needs batteries...

Finished above the china cabinet... today, The doll is a vintage Aunt Jemima doll, I<3 her! Scott always asks me if something was passed down from my Great Aunt Jemima.... or my Uncle Ben, or my cousin Little Debbie. He makes me smile. :)

I love how this room looks at night... it glows all warm and cozy. beckons for  glass of wine or cup of coffee

I will be sure to update as I make my improvements!~Shelby
